Pedro Rollán, acting president of the Community of Madrid, today visited the start of the works

  • The future green space, currently part of the grounds of the company’s head offices, will extend over 3,700 m2
  • In 2018, Canal opened another park to the public in Calle Santa Engracia and also redeveloped the Tercer Depósito Sports and Leisure Centre

Canal de Isabel II has begun work on the construction of a new park in the western area of the grounds of its head offices, adjoining Calle Bravo Murillo, which will extend over an area of 3,745 square metres. The public water company will allocate 1,183,296.30 euros to the construction of this new green space with walkways, children’s playgrounds and sports areass. Pedro Rollán, acting president of the Community of Madrid, accompanied by Rafael Prieto, executive vice-president of the public company, today visited the construction works, which have a projected timeframe of 12 months.

The project will also include the replacement of the existing fencing around Canal de Isabel II’s head offices, facing the streets Calle Bravo Murillo and Calle José Abascal, to match the fencing already in place in Canal de Isabel II’s other green spaces. In total, nearly 500 metres of fencing will be replaced.

For the duration of the works, the company will install information placards about the project in the construction area, with illustrations of how the area will look in the future and a QR code allowing residents to see a video outlining the future park. Rollán explained that the opening up of these spaces ’stems from the public company’s commitment to society, allowing public access to previously restricted areas‘.

OPENING UP OF 123,000 M2 FOR ALL CITIZENS

This is not the first action by Canal de Isabel II to recondition some of their land and open it up to the public. In November 2018, the company officially opened the Ríos Rosas park, a 2,500-m2 area in the grounds of their head offices.

In addition to this, the renovation and redevelopment of the area around the golf course at the Tercer Depósito Sport and Leisure Centre on Avenida Filipinas will be put out to tender in 2019.

These three facilities will together offer more than 123,000 m2 of Canal de Isabel II space for the use and enjoyment of the general public, entailing an investment of some 18 million euros. And alongside this, there is also the Parque IV Depósito at Plaza de Castilla with an area of over 45,000 m2. These new actions are being carried out within the framework of the company’s Strategic Plan 2018-2030 to strengthen transparency, good governance and commitment to society.
