Pedro Rollán and the Works Council met this morning to address the announcement of vacancies

  • The current management of Canal included the reduction in temporary work and the retention of talent among their commitments
  • The first 400 vacancies will be announced before the end of 2018 and will serve to consolidate temporary employment
  • There are over 2500 employees at the company who offer a daily service to more than 6 million inhabitants in Madrid

Canal de Isabel II is to announce approximately 700 new public employment vacancies between 2018 and 2019, the highest number of public jobs to be launched by the company.

This was announced by the vice-chairman, Minister for the Presidency and spokesperson for the regional government, and chairman of the public company, Pedro Rollán, together with the Works Council for Canal, at the meeting held today, where the agreement reached between the Directorate-General of Human Resources and Budgets for the Community of Madrid was addressed.

The objective of the notice of vacancies is to reduce the high level of temporary work at the company which comes as the result of the ban on indefinite contracts in public trading companies following the approval in 2012 of Government laws on the rationalisation of expenditure.

More precisely, one of the commitments of the current management is to reduce the level of temporary work as established in one of the lines of the Strategic Plan 2018-2030, whose objective is to promote the talent, commitment and health of company professionals.

Of the 700 new jobs, approximately 400 are to be announced before the end of the year and are for the consolidation of temporary employment. Therefore a scale of merits will be applied to award points for experience as a temporary worker of the company. The remaining 300 vacancies will be announced in 2019.

Access to these vacancies will be through public procedures which shall be governed by the principles of publicity, transparency, equal opportunities, merit and ability in accordance with that established in the I Collective Agreement of the company and the agreements reached with the Works Council.

During his speech, Rollán highlighted that “this announcement of employment is an essential step towards providing the staff of the company with the necessary stability, reinforcing their professionalism and retaining internal talent, as well as establishing the bases which guarantee that Canal de Isabel II will be able to continue developing their mission in the future. This mission is to maintain the excellent quality and management of the water of all the inhabitants of Madrid with transparency, efficiency and sustainability”.

Canal de Isabel II was founded more than 165 years ago to supply water to the city of Madrid, and currently more than 2500 employees work to provide a service of excellence to more than 6 million people in the Community of Madrid.

It is an innovative company, a leader in its sector, and internationally recognised for its management of the integrated water cycle. It operates 13 reservoirs; 78 spring tappings; 14 drinking water treatment plants; 17,434 kilometres of conveyance and distribution channels; 133 pumping stations for drinking water and 131 for waste water; 14,018 kilometres of sewage networks; 63 storm tanks; 823 kilometres of sewers and outfalls; 157 waste water treatment stations; and 512 kilometres of reclaimed water channels.
